New Job Update
I talked to my soon to be manager today, and they haven't gotten my background check back yet, so I wasn't able to start training today. The next training class starts two weeks from today, so I will proabably start then. I really hope that they get everything figured out, because Mom will have to go back to work exactly four weeks from today. The training classes are 2 weeks long, and I'll need her to take the boys to school and pick them up while I'm training. Normally I will work when they are in school, but they train everybody at the same time, so I have to be available from 8:30am to 5pm. I don't want to worry too much about it now, because it might work out that I am done with training before she has to go back. I guess I'll wait untill the time comes and see what happens.
On the plus side, since I didn't start the new job today, I will be off on Friday to get packed and loaded so that we can leave for Ruthven as soon as Brett gets off of work at 5!! Looking forward to seeing everyone. It has been soooo long since we saw everyone. :-)

Party Update - 2
GOOD NEWS!
You(the family) do not have to carry picnic tables down the street. Tim got his pickup working.
BAD NEWS!
It rain here AGAIN another 1.5 inches, with more in the forecast. I think maybe the lot next door will be a swimming pool by Sat. We can make it a pool party!!!
JUST NEWS!
G'ma and I went shopping tonight, got the soup for the maidrites, went with some Vegetable Beef due to price of Chicken Gumbo. oh no the story is that G'ma the old school cook, did not feel people were not getting enough vegetables. Also on the list were paper plates, potatoes,, oh never mind you do not need the whole list. Just know that things are going as planned!!

Party update
After 9 inches of rain on Sat morning and another 2/4 inches every day since then, things are a little wet around here!! There is water standing in the lot next to mom's, where I hoped to park cars!!
Weather says more rain for next few days but 81 and sunny/clouds on Sat.
We are going grocery shopping tonight and getting long tables from Penny. Of course Wed is taco night but Thursday will fry hamburger and cook potatoes for salad. Now I just need to figure out how to get picnic tables to mom's, Tim's truck blew it's trany! How do you all feel about walking down the street with picnic tables, just from Dave Schurgs?? Oh, wait we need to take them back to the pool area!!!

More Pics from Brad's Solo
I drove Brad's Tahoe and trailer back to Urbandale, and he told me on the way that it meant a lot to him to have his family and friends there. His sister had invitations to join her friends last night, and she chose to help her brother. She said earlier in the day that the only thing keeping her from LOVING ballooning (vs. just liking it) was the lack of sleep. LOL
Brad and Kirk Bloom just missing the field to the north.
Jim From is next to Mom & I. He signed Brad off to solo, and he did the first solo ceremony, which is just like the first ride ceremony, only the victim gets REALLY SOAKED!! Kirk Bloom's crew helped with the ceremony, but it was the Harris gang that got him good!!
Brad and Ashley. She said "Ewww, he's all wet!"
It looks like he wet his pants, LOL!! We all went to dinner afterwards, and he had to go all soaking wet.
Brad did his first solo flight last night. He was still flying off the ground even after he landed. He took off ENE of the field & headed towards the field, but couldn't get quite the turn he wanted. He missed the balloon field to the north, but showed his prior life as a balloon crew person & landed in a nice yard with short mowed grass. Yeah Brad. Jim did a First Solo ceremony & he was properly doused with champagne, beer & water - all COLD.

Ask, & ye shall receive!!
You asked for blogs, so here they are!! LOL
As you may know, I have been frustrated at work with the lack of hours I have been getting. It's just not worth the time it takes to get ready in the morning and the gas to drive to West Des Moines and back to work for 3 hours. I am only making $7.50 and hour. With the new minimum wage increase coming up, I wasn't making more than minimum wage. That's just ridiculous. After finding out that our sales supervisor (whom I have become pretty good friends with) had found another job, I knew life at work was going to become intolerable. The manager has been hard to work with lately, with low sales and staffing problems, and luckily I have avoided her by getting scheduled mostly on her days off. Knowing that the sales sup. was leaving, I knew the manager would be even more crabby. I would apply for the now open position, but it requires working almost every weekend. I went home that day and emailed Brett my resume with some suggestions, and he tweaked it up for me and passed it along to his supervisor. I can't do his job because it requires experience or a college degree, neither of which I have. However, the call center downstairs is always hiring, and the rumor is that they hire a lot of college students, and with them going back to school, they are needing people to work while students are in class. I got a call on Tuesday from one of the managers in the call center, and after a fun game of phone tag, we set up an interview for today at 2pm. He asked me the usual questions (tell me about a time.... and how did you handle the situation... blah, blah, blah), and then had me sit with one of the guys on his team and listen to a couple of calls for about 10 minutes. We then went back to the cubicle where we did the interview, and he offered me the job!!!!! As long as the felony charge from when I murdered that guy last year doesn't show up on the background check (just kidding, everyone laugh), I will start as early as Wed. the 22nd. He said it could take anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks for the background check to come back, so I may have to wait for the next training class to start in a couple of weeks if it doesn't come back on time. For the first couple of weeks, I will work the same hours as Brett as I go through classroom-style training. Mom was kind enough to take off of work for 6 weeks to take the boys to school and pick them up in the afternoon while I do this. Thanx Mom! After training I will work from 9:30am - 3pm, Monday through Friday, working every third Saturday from 9-1. I'll try to swing it so that I work the same Saturday as Brett and then boys can stay with Chris. I will take calls from people all over the country wanting to refinance their cars, homes, and credit cards, take their initial information and pass them along to the appropriate people. Brett works in the department that refinances homes, so I would be passing along some customers to him and his team. I will be making $11.25 an hour with paid time off and insurance benefits. I am very excited!!!!!

Exciting news
Exciting news from the H side of the family. Dan went down to the Balloonport & got his Student Pilot License this week! He has an in with a certain commercial pilot who will train him.
I'm doing well, not ready to run a marathon yet, but better every day.
Melissa crewed for Brad this a.m., he's only flown 2 or 3 times this week. He flew this a.m. with Jim Fromm. He's a really good instructor, so should learn some things. His sister is down, so she got to see his balloon for the first time this a.m. I watched the boys.
Is G'ma's computer lots faster? Yes, gotta get her solitaire back! Wow, clear up to Windows XP!

Grandma's new computer
I got a "old" computer from the college and hooked it up for Grandma. It is so "old" it even Windows XP on it!!! Much newer than her Window 95! Now I just need to get her favorite solatire game on it!! We can now use our thumb drives!!!
